it took a bit for me to get into this, but breathing in really hits its stride around the 35 minute mark as tensions rise and more of the supernatural aspects start to be revealed. before this, it, sadly, does feel more like a short film that doesn't quite know what to do with itself.
all in all, i found this to be quite enjoyable and well-crafted, even with that initial rough patch. some incredible cinematography here too, and i loved the suffocating atmosphere of the film.
i have so much hope for south african horror. it's such an untapped corner of our cinema – one that i hope to contribute to one day.
