Really enjoyable swashbuckler that's kinda history but not really. John Barrymore is a lot of fun here, very at odds with his general serious actor persona, and Conrad Veidt (in his first American film) is so gleefully deranged and bizarre as the King. The production design as well is top notch, note the reused sets from The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and there as some camera shots here that are really surprising and innovative for the era.
