And there it is. I'm not sure I have a full on review for this final installment in Nadia like I did for the first two thirds, but this was just so great! The escalating nature of the story from a childrens' adventure to something truly epic in scale was so weirdly natural and paced so damn well. But not only did the scale of the adventure balloon out, but so did the scifi elements and the more experimental stylistic choices that make up what we know from Anno's filmography today. With each installment, it felt like we were getting closer and closer to the filmmaker Anno would be when he was able to make Neon Genesis Evangelion and in turn find his artistic footing. And in order to offer another amendment to my previous review, this part takes the influence of Space Battleship Yamato in the underwater action to LITERAL Space Battleship action with the Nautilus evolving into an honest to goodness Space Battleship.
Weirdly enough, Nadia doesn't fully feel like what Anno's art feels like moving forward for a lot of it, it feels more akin to Gunbuster initially, but much like Gunbuster, that spice comes out in the final act. In the case of Nadia, that spice is very very spicy and in the final act, Nadia goes full Evangelion for a majority of this last third. But outside of the metatextual aspects of it; the final act of Nadia is also a super compelling and satisfying battle that had me on the edge of my seat for an hour on end.
I know I said I may not have had a full on review to offer here but as I've let my stream of consciousness type out I can see I did. I'm just glad I decided to dive into Nadia and got to fill this little gap in my Hideaki Anno studies, and that it was such a fun adventurous ride. I can see this being something I just pop on from time to time and I will definitely be recommending this to many mutual!

Alright. One thing. It's weird that Sanson marries Marie ... right? She's like 4 and he's 27 apparently... I am unhappy with that development considering he was one of my favourite characters, but this may just have to be something I forget about.
