Inspired by true events, director Pulkit’s investigative drama thriller definitely nails the tone of for the genre while mimicking a lot of the visual shorthands as well. It’s subject matter is grim and dark and doesn’t downplay the evils of the abuse while still championing the small, local investigative journalists who work tirelessly to expose corruption and deliver hard-hitting news. The way the film explores the relationship between the press, the government, and the public is interesting, especially since the one responsible for all this terror is a reporter himself. Bhakshak can feel rather slow at times, with very little actual developments happening, but by not rushing things Pulkit is able to draw out some great performances.
