"Vulgaria" may be crude and vulgar, but it is actually about how business is done in Asia, where a lot of it involves sitting down and talking to a potential business partner for hours until the two of you figure each other out. It is a talky movie where everybody talks about wanting to make money, but then people start behaving in really asinine ways and Chapman To's character has to go with it because...well...he needs cash. There are a lot of funny jokes but really, "Vulgaria" is an unapologetically disenchanted film about the HK film industry and if the film seems to just "end" with a few unresolved plot strands, it is because for To's character, the grind never ends.
