wasn't ready for the fact that seeing 20 completely different people smoke would be one of my most interesting and unique experiences in artistic documentary filmmaking. throughout the viewing, I took notes about the emotions I found in each of these people. I was planning to write this here, but it started to feel so personal and dear to my heart. the third individual, for example, appeared to be really busy, as though she was rushing to finish her cigarette and do something really important. however, she knew she would be late anyhow, so she just nervously kept living in the moment. at the same time, I found in the 8th person a deep immersion in self reflection and his thoughts, so strong that he doesn't look at the camera at all. > and most of what I've seen in these people is obviously untrue... their experiences are special and distinctive, as is my own perspective of seeing them on film, which is likely the first and only time. for these 99 minutes, each of us is just projecting our own associations and feelings. and I see the beauty in that. in the fact that everyone's perception will be subjective. it's like listening to experimental music without words. because you're not given a specific message, you'll have to figure it out on your own. and there's going to be something that speaks to your soul. so this is always a memorable and special experience with art for me. perhaps this is its purest form.
