Underwhelmed by the stagnant and frustrating "why" of it all. The camera felt far less poetic, instead relying heavier on the physical environment to convey the intended feelings. The characters, Akira, specifically, are more detestable. This whole movie could have been avoided if Akira just took a hint and left. I think the word I'm looking for is "unnecessary." Yuriko's suffering is unnecessary. She seems to lack agency, her tragedy far too forced. I don't understand why she had to climb this damn mountain? And then to have Kazuo say, "I should have left you back there." It's almost comical. By the end I felt as cold as the snow falling around them. Yoshida's frozen vacuum was impenetrable to me.
