I liked the film, but I think it would have been better suited as a short film. I believe it suffers from major pacing issues, as many scenes feel unnecessary and do not contribute significantly to the narrative or other supporting elements. As such, I think those scenes and shots could have been edited out without compromising the final product. That being said, I found the cinematography really beautiful, along with the overall story and message.

“Tale of the Land” is definitely well-shot and shows that loeloe has some solid ideas, both in terms of visuals and storytelling. 

Shenina Cinnamon once again proves she’s an actress to watch, delivering a powerful performance as May, a young woman battling her own inner conflicts.

The film is a kind of metaphor, the director mentioned that the story represents the Dayak tribe, the native people of Kalimantan, who can’t live freely on their own land anymore because it’s been exploited by palm oil plantations and mining.
