At long last, I am able to complete my journey that began in 2022 of seeing every Joaquin Phoenix movie. This one was seemingly completely lost, and now I understand why. Miraculously appearing in 540p on the Criterion Channel, this is a complete disaster. Usually when I say that a movie is incomprehensible, I'm exaggerating, but this is totally incomprehensible. With a budget of 10 million and a box office of 500,000, I'm sure that if more people had seen it, it would've tanked Joaquin's career. Luckily, I saved his worst performance for last. All of our native American leads (including Sean Penn who does not interact with any of the characters, but does narrate intermittently) are forced to do Polish accents for some reason and I just feel so bad for everyone involved. I can almost see what Vinterberg was going for and I think a better director and a few script edits could've made this interesting and coherent in the vein of a Wim Wenders type movie, but as it is...so messy and boring. But, finally, now, my plight is over...until Joker 2...
