I am very proud to be one of the first people to review this shark documentary on Letterboxd.
In a desperate, last-minute attempt to watch some of my first Shark Week content, I found Alien Sharks: Ghosts of Japan. Of course when I first saw that title I thought "Alien sharks are exactly what I'm looking for. Sign me up!" Little did I know that this had nothing to do with alien sharks at all. This documentary follows biologist Forrest Galante (hell of a name) as he searches for the elusive Japanese angelshark that is unfrotunately approaching extinction.
I'm glad that I watched this as there are many sea creatures shown in this film that I have never heard of before, the angelshark being one. They're fascinating and Galante provides some pretty cool factoids about all of them. His enthusiasm is contagious and he goes to some serious lengths to find these sharks. His obvious flirting with his guest gets a little awkward though (especially when you find out he has a wife and son).
It's only 40 minutes long, and I'd say it's worth the watch for sure.
