Patsers is a fine film. It’s not an all-around great film, and it’s not a good sequel. But I wasn’t even the biggest fan of the first one, so who am I to judge?
The movie is fine; it’s just very bland. Gangster stuff, bad humor, and moments that feel all over the place. I see it as a film with cool visuals and a simple, enjoyable little story. But I do like the line when Femke goes crazy in the car chase and Adamo says "You can do anything, can you sing" or something like that. I liked that little reference to the actors career. Being Pommelien Thijs, who's a famous Belgian singer and musician. Also her newest album Gedoe, pretty good, good album, good album.
What I do know is that I hate the editing in some scenes. There are so many moments that are cut or edited so weirdly. The fast split-screen transitions from scene to scene are especially unnecessary when a normal cut would’ve worked perfectly.
A lot of the movie is trying really hard to have a distinct style. Which I respect, but the style just doesn’t work for most of the moments it’s used in. And I find it funny that when Adamo explains the whole operation, he suddenly appears on screen explaining it, but it looks like it was filmed on his phone. Did they not have a green screen, professional cameras, or anything left? The budget was over six million, so I think they did. It’s just funny that after all those insane animations, effects, and flashy visuals, Adamo suddenly pops in looking like he recorded it with his iPhone.
Don’t get me wrong: it’s fun in moments. But as a whole film, it’s too much. I think Patsers would’ve worked better as a show, because then it could’ve had more range. Instead, most of it is just the most cliché gangster-film moments paired with PTA-style lens flares.
