i found this doc did an impressive job at exploring simone’s life and the intersection of that within her work, presenting the material of her philosophies in an easily comprehensible way while still expanding on the continuous impact of le deuxième sexe through a broader lens and still leaving room for thought provoking conversation. it criticizes the blind spots in her theory and simultaneously takes space to educate the audience on why her perspective was limited and the ways in which said limitations exclude crucial aspects and tenets of feminist thought. the conversation on intersectionality was particularly insightful and well developed and the storyline highlighting feminism within queer and trans spaces not only beautifully shot but easily digestible for those new to understanding feminism and how it weaves itself into the trans and queer experience. i wanted more biographical material as thats what i went into this screening expecting but i was pleasantly intrigued by the documentary’s approach!!!!
