one of the most intense documentaries i’ve ever watched. Something that I really liked about this film was that it was just a girl, a camera, and her idea. Majority of the shots are within the families home and it really just shows that you don’t need a crazy crew and setup to make something great. Something I also really liked was how realistic this was. Obviously it’s going to be realistic as a documentary but almost realistic to everyone’s lives. What happens in this film is absolutely awful and many people will never experience something so gruesome but it is so common to experience something that can so quickly change the entire trajectory of your life.

What really got to me is that the more mundane scenes like the family eating, Hawa trying to find proper fabric, or going to the dentist. Even the interior of the house. It took me right back to my family's home in Kabul. To my aunt. To my cousin.

Yes, life in Afghanistan is utter shit - but that doesn't mean people aren't just living their lives. By showing the mundane in between the more awful things, Najiba Noori showed a more complete picture of women's lives than most other portrayals have done so far.
