A hilarous and heartwarmingly Aussie Christmas flick from comedic duo Fruedian Nip, continuing the tradition of local STAN produced sun and sandal Yuletide cinematic efforts.
Sarah (Co-writer Vic Zerbst) is a big city Sydney trainee dermatologist, planning to escape her hectic Aussie fam homelife by spending Christmas with her rich woke mummy's boy beau Seb (Alec Snow). When Sarah's dog Nugget falls ill, Sarah rushes home despite her reluctance, where we meet newfound Tinder enthusiast and family matriach Jodie (Gia Carides), still coming to grips with the separation (and having his fave Christmas undies chewed up by nugget) Dad John (Damien Garvey) and an array of extended fam including the colourful attired Aunty Ros (Mandy 'Rhonda' McElhinny) and workout wear adorned eye-lash entrepreneur cousin Shayla (co-writer Jenna Owen).
There is definitely some of the modern classic ABC television series A Moody Christmas enshrined in the DNA of this piece, but only in the fact that that show, and this movie, perfectly capture the madness of a big family Aussie Christmas. There is also, a dare I say it, hint of a Hallmark Christmas movie in here, with a big city profesh returning to her quaint small (in this case suburb) to find love and the true value of community, but all the schmaltz has been replaced with laughs instead.
It's funny. It's relatable. And it's Aussie. I look forward to seeing even more exposure of fruedian nip.
Wait...not like that.
