CannibalsMixing cannibal horror with the found footage genre sounds like an excellent idea. And I’m convinced it doesn’t just sound like one, I’m sure it is one. If executed right.
“Crowsnest” fails at the most simple things. It has some of the most annoying and douchy characters I’ve had to sit through 90 minutes with in a long time, it looks like garbage, even for found footage standards which are pretty low by definition, it is boring and manages to make 84 minutes feel like 2 hours, it has zero suspense or tension, no scares and the villains are completely bland.
There are maybe one or two moments when the RV shows up for the first time that are not bad, but the film just keeps getting worse and worse. At some point we get into classic horror tropes of characters suddenly revealing that they cheated on their partner with their best friend only because the film needs the characters to start turning on each other. The execution of this is laughably bad and borderline lazy and therefore has zero impact and it’s only effect is making the viewer dislike the shitty characters even more. Even worse, that ‘reveal’ is utterly predictable.
The idea of the RV isn’t even bad, but again the execution fails miserably at getting anything out of it.
Also, the film might be the worst looking found footage film I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot.
“Crowsnest” has next to nothing positive speaking for it. Best thing are premise and a couple of ideas that are completely wasted. The execution and writing are painfully bad and the film doesn’t manage to keep you attention for 10 straight minutes.
This is even worse than the “Wrong Turn” sequels and prequels which says a whole lot.
