Sort of underwhelming
With everything that was promoted about this movie, I think my expectations might have been too high going into this. Jessica Chastain steals the show, a well trained amazing actress who leaned all the way into what worked about this movie. She’s great in everything I see her in. This film was shot beautifully, some really cool scenes, and a few decent jumpscares. I think for me this fell short due to it trying to be more than what this was. I think the premise was dope, but showed its hand way to early. I seen right away that this was going to be “The monster was a metaphor for processing trauma” type of movie. Don’t get me wrong, im all for thought provoking horror, but to me this wasn’t it. They tried to over do it with jumpscares that maybe 2/10 actually got me. Let down… 😭

Trailer was so scary that every element of surprise the movie could’ve had was given away back in mid July during the previews for The Odyssey.

Understood the deeper meaning of the movie as time transpired but wasn’t as scary as expected, the trailer and the movie felt like 2 different entities. okay jump scares but other than that didn’t seem to be all hyped up to be.
