A meditative and powerful debut. HOUSES follows the non-binary Sasha on an expedition between the places in which they grew up in Safed. The first act of the film quickly gives the impression that Sasha isn’t well, and their journey makes them recover traumatic childhood memories. Meanwhile, they meet Anna, a resident at one of Sasha’s previous homes. The story here gets revealed gradually through long takes which slowly unravel Sasha, and the intensity of the drama increases respectively. By the end, viewers will have been on an emotional rollercoaster presented through slowly burning drama. Highly recommended for those who can stomach heavy subject matter and have enough patience for a very introspective and slow film.
