🎬 Eyes on Austin: Films from the Austin Film Festival - #2
Nobody Wants to be Here, Nobody Wants to leave is a genre bending satirical dark comedy drama debut for a young director and writer that was shown at the Austin Film Festival. A mix between real commentary on suicide mixed with a laugh out loud satirical thriller, is a tough story to tackle and I commend them for taking a leap in a debut film like they did here. There are definitely comments to be made about how difficult it is to balance comedy alongside a topic as serious as suicide is, and I can't say the film was able to fully balance them perfectly. As daunting of a task as that balance is I believe certain moments truly shined through with potential and intrigue, especially in the comedy aspects being one of the funniest films all year. There are moments that could be sharpened to help the film communicate with the audience more clearly towards the end of them film, but overall I had a great time watching the world premiere for this film, and believe this won't be the last we see of this duo.
