Good idea, wrong director? Some really great ideas just wish it wasn’t presented so plainly. Which sucks because “redeemable gay guys moping around and having quiet sex” sounds like something right up my alley, but it kinda just reeked of someone confusing their own life for cinema.
Shoutout to the SUPER subtle “minority’s white bear boyfriend makes him feel inadequate for being a minority” b-plot. Felt.
^^^UPDATE: Now that I’m thinking about it, the b-plot (maybe more of a 20 second mirror look) was incredibly more interesting than the main plot of the movie?? Such a real heartbreaking feeling that does not get discussed enough in gay discourse. Something about your partner telling you they’ve never been with a minority or that they’ve only ever been attracted to white people is such a mind-racking experience. This instant othering done simply by someone acknowledging your non-ideal existence.
The fact they thought this boring ass white man being nostalgic over his ex was MORE INTERESTING baffles me.
