It’s rare to find a film that attempts to wrestle with faith, sin, and redemption without sounding preachy... and "Sampung Utos kay Josh" does exactly that. The premise alone is already bold: a man so disillusioned by his suffering that he sets out to break all Ten Commandments. At first glance, it sounds almost sacrilegious, but the execution? Surprisingly thoughtful, and at times, downright hilarious.
Nakakatawa lahat ng tropa ni Josh... especially Albie Casiño’s character, na literal na parang may built-in kalibugan sa sistema niya kahit saan sila magpunta. That one scene where his phone connects to the speaker mid-porn? HAHAHAHAHA
Mahirap umoo sa role na ganito... one that talks directly to God with frustration, grief, and at times, sarcasm. But Jerald Napoles carries it with such rawness.
Some of y’all won’t get it... lalo na kung sanay na kayo sa mga pelikulang pinupush na maging mabait, at humihingi ng kapalit. But this film doesn’t offer that. It simply says: be good, be kind... not because someone’s watching, but because you know how it feels to be broken too.
I also loved the subtle poetic turn in the end, when Josh returns to the stripper, Genesis, after seeing a Bible verse etched on a gravestone beside his parents'. It wasn’t about lust, nor was it about closure. It was about grace... and the quiet hope that someone flawed like him could still choose love.
Walang perpektong tao. Lahat tayo ay may basag. Pero kahit basag, puwedeng maging buo ulit.
