This was a pretty well done short film that can probably manipulate any viewer’s emotions. I seriously thought it was going to have a bitter-sweet twist in the end, but nice to see that the expectations were subverted.
I thought this was going to be one those “grandson doesn’t like hanging around with grandpa, because he wants to play games, go on phone, etc. but then he feels bad and realises that he likes his grandfather after all!”. But as soon as I saw that gramps with a timer too, I became glad that it went into a slightly unusual direction.
My main nitpick with the story, I thought that the old lady was the grandfather’s dead wife and that first scene with her was a flashback. She looks so much like the grandson, and I thought it would’ve added some layer into the narrative.
I also liked that there’s no verbal dialogue here so unlike other short films, it actually justifies why it’s short.
Animation is pretty good, but you just know that it’s going to be compared with Spider-Verse a lot lol
