The south’s history is very complicated, complex, and tragic in a lot of ways when it comes to the various minorities found within the region and how they are treated by their own country. This film is so important and heartbreaking at the same time, reiterating to me how the government in America is not set up to protect its people but rather its profitability. The way southerners have been intentionally held down through a lack of education — something that persists to this day — breaks my heart but further establishes how important unions, organizations, and community efforts are in the face of injustice. Truly an incredible documentary.
