I havent seen a dutch movie in years, probably since I learned english. My main gripes with dutch movies is that I do not believe the acting at all. Its almost always terrible.
Over the years ive learned why that is. Dutch actors arent terrible, not usually. Instead, Dutch films dont have the budget or resources to let the actors give their best work, not usually at least. Because of an often busy shooting schedule, you get lesser performances.
And the script itself is sometimes wonky in high budget 'blockbuster' dutch films. The ones that people go and see. Thats mainly what I mean when I say that I dont like dutch movies.
But then this film had a few trailers drop and eventually people saw it and said it was a really good film, so fine, Ill go see it.
I was suprised and happy to see that a good film can be achieved in dutch. As a dutchman wanting to get into filmmaking, films in dutch seemed cringe, but for the most part I did not feel cringy when watching this film.
Its script is very well written, most of the performances are very solid, the dramatic tension is clear and doesnt go away. Exactly what I wanted from this kind of film, in English or in Dutch.
Only the character of Anouk sometimes said things where I was like 'Eh, I dont think someone would really say something this elaborate' but even still that didnt put me off, not too much at least.
Anyways, this was far too long. "Bedankt voor het luisteren naar mijn spreekbeurt, zijn er nog vragen?..."
