i love, love, love how uncomfortable the awkwardness is in this short. so used to cringe comedy (especially recently) where it’s all but a punchline, but there’s something about the way characters run through their dialogue that makes this legit terrifying and sad. i think it’s because there’s this sort of self-awareness the characters possess but they’re still unable to fully connect, like it was clear it wasn’t gonna work since the start and now they’re just trying to survive. the constant switching between random small talk and eating, trying not to sound like they’re completely out of it, hurt me so bad lmao.
i really resonated with the MC’s struggle to have a connection and not sound annoying, whenever they’re by themselves I felt like i was in their headspace the entire time. the amount of detail and the overall artstyle elevate this as well and i hope the director gets to make more stuff like this.
