The Mysterious X

This film surprised me. For something released in 1914, it really didn’t feel like it. The cinematography is amazing, the score is great, and once it gets past the first few slow minutes, the film becomes so much better. The plot is brilliant and gets pretty chaotic, especially near the end. The final act is so good it had me on the edge of my seat because of how suspenseful it was. The only downside is that it doesn’t feel special like its not that crazy good like 10/10 quality, but nonetheless it’s still a great film I really enjoyed it!

Decent tension, pretty good visual storytelling, it looked fine, wasn't ugly but it was a beautiful film either. Overall pretty decent.

While The Mysterious X might be somewhat unoriginal in its story, it's absolutely groundbreaking in its imagery, using lighting like no film before it.

This film invented style-over-substance.

I don't understand how I've never heard of films like The Mysterious X in school. In Denmark, we don't often enough talk about the contributions that these few select Danish directors, like Christensen and Dreyer made to early film.

Nevertheless it's rather satisfying discovering these film on my own.
