Quite enigmatic tbh
Had all the stuff that got me falling in love with Samurai From Nowhere to be honest… so how fascinating that this ended up being significantly weaker
The lead was still fantastic but for sure suffered from a far more aimless plot
Honestly that was it
It didn’t feel focused enough
I think a story like this needs a lot more focus than this gave itself
But still a pretty fantastic concept
I really really liked the ideas here but I find it hard to convince myself I’ll come back to it with chocolates roses and arms wide open
Felt like whatever this may do for me was done, even if it had more to give
Excuse the tragic wording
I lost myself forgive me
Can’t win them all however much I want everything I feel I’m wiping the dust from to be some hidden gem that redefines my understanding of the era… the scope and range of cinema back then can’t be too different to today can it ?
Things are just fine sometimes

Importantly I still had a great time actually watching this

Dojos were challenged
Oh yes yes the crowd work really shone through here which surprised me
Two new directors … seemingly not much to link the two together, not even being the same characters
Was the concept for this short lived series to have Tamba and Nagato in the leading roles just challenging dojos and bumbling and storming around respectively ?
If so I wish they made more
But there’s a real language in that composition clearly
Bc it’s come through here for seemingly little reason
The way the group of eager young samurai moved as one and had one collective voice was really reminiscent of the greats I found - almost as well as the inn-dwellers from the last entry
That said it wasn’t a big enough part, and the lack of focus between the community and our leads didn’t give the same effect as before
That back and forth was incredible
It was something beautiful
Lowk maybe I loved Samurai From Nowhere so much more than I realised
Maybe I needed this to show me that
