It’s just the best
War stories aren’t my thing. They are often derivative, regenerating the same old message of “war, bad” a statement that no person who should be taken seriously would disagree with.
Legend of the galactic heroes is more then a war story.
It’s really something special. For an animated movie from the 90’s this film has some of the most innovated, and creative cinematography choices I’ve ever seen. Editing choices that will linger in my brain for a long time. The entire Yang, Lap, and Jessica sequence is one of the best, but particularly the silent scene. Heartbreaking.
Out of our two mc’s I’ve always been more of Yang Wen-li guy. Even when I was young, but this watch really made me appreciate Reinhard’s never ending quest for power and purpose in a world plotted against him.
Yang will always have the edge for me though. His story of a unfulfilled life burdened by missed opportunities, unrealised potential and unrequited love life really hits different. The tortured genius, who hates war but is the best at it.
A film I’ve always loved that I never thought would gain an even greater appreciation as I got older.
