Locked into anthology brain while watching this.
1. Mantis (I would say a 5/5). Dude felt intrusive from the the very start (framed through small, but deliberate actions that made their interactions uncomfortable). That discomfort pays off in the final reveal. It turns a familiar 'creepy guy escorts girl home' set up into something predatory in reverse. Definitely a payoff that feels earned.
2. The Little Girl Eater (Nevermind). A creature horror relies HEAVILY on visual commitment, and this segment seems to hate that. The creature, aside from its limited exposure, is not clearly shown. It weakens the threat instead of enhancing the mystery. Feels rushed and incomplete.
3. Jess is a Clown Now (I'mma give this one a 1/5). This segment had a fun idea. The editing skills and comedic timing gave it personality. Some scenes were genuinely funny in a more chaotic way, but all its problem is the acting. The humor and horror did not hit as hard as they should have.
4. The Devil is in the Detail (1.5/5). I've got nothing to say, except the cinematography does most of the lifting. You could say it's aesthetically engaging, but narratively thin.
5. Mint in a Box (.5/5). This left me mixed. It's like they depend on Bella's performance. She carries everything here, specifically this segment's tension. This happens when a dad's willing to do everything for her daughter (I'm joking, man. I'll run).
6. White Rabbit (5/5). It was the most entertaining segment overall. I like how it keeps tightening its psychological grip until the end. The final stretch somehow gave off the same unhinged character energy as Pearl, plus the fact that they're both wearing red. I always enjoy horror that lets women take full control of the narrative.
