lol so many bad reviews from white liberal arts students rating this so low because they feel it didn’t do the book justice. im not saying i don’t believe them, i just have yet to read the book. im sure its far more appealing and introspective than the movie but i dont think that the movie itself is actually bad, as far as made for tv films go. its well produced, the camera work and acting is decent, the story flows well. of course my opinion on how the story was handled will most likely change after reading the original story, but its overall a decent movie. the two issues i have with this movie as of now: 1. the fact that her character seems to find herself through her relationships with men but you dont really see that relationship with herself develop in any real way because its overshadowed by this love story between her and teacake. and 2. she really didn’t need to say “im watching god” more than once. we get it.
