Starts out as your run-of-the-mill Pickford movie in the first act, but then transforms into a much more tragic, mature, and frankly sad melodrama as it develops, before ending on a fairly hopeful note. Definitely seems like a push from Pickford to get out of her adolescent persona into one more mature, like Rosita but more in a devastating direction, and it largely is really effective. Some gorgeous imagery here in spots too.
