Ninagawa is a powerful man in Japanese politics and with top economic connections.His granddaughter is then murdered. The suspect is Kunihide Kiyomaru. Kunihide Kiyomaru has a prior conviction for assaulting and killing a girl 8 years ago. The police could never apprehend the suspect in the prior killing.
For some strange reason when I first saw the poster I was under the impression that this was a buddy cop comedy movie and I was like huh that’s a weird genre for Miike to make a movie out of but I decided to check it out and nooooo this is a very very serious movie with a lot of serious moments and themes and I’m not disappointed at all with it! It’s great! Having Kazuki try his absolute hardest to make sure the killer didn’t get killed no matter what evil shit he does is just so cool to watch cause it’s exactly like batman making sure joker never dies no matter how evil he may be and it’s just so cool and so well written. Killing an evil person would be the easy way, but keeping them alive even after the terrible shit they did is so much harder to do and shows the strength of a character and how they will never break their code. This is a pretty fantastic movie from Miike and while it’s much different and much more serious than his other movies, this is still very good and I really think he can do any genre of movie.
