A noir following a WW2 veteran journying to New Mexico in order to get revenge on the man who killed his friend. Several things stood out to me in this film. I really enjoyed the character development shown in Lucky Gagin (Robert Montgomery). You see his character change for the better the more he interacts with the local people. Wanda Hendrix also gave a great performance, and Thomas Gomez was a massive standout as Pancho. Additionally, the script and the camerawork were both strong. It is no surprise to me that this was written by Ben Hecht. I loved how the festival during the last part of the film was integrated into the background and not just used as something else happening to be going on at the same time. The ending is not your typical noir ending but it was unique and refreshing, and it really soldified the character development I mentioned earlier.
