I was originally gonna end this month of watching lots of Wyler with his last movie. I mean that only makes sense right. However after I watched it, I still felt the need to just watch one final Wylers flick to really end off the month. There's not a lot left for me to watch so I went back to the 20s with this. Watching an earlier movie by a director is always fun when you've really familiarized yourself with their style, as you can pick up on early sign of things to come in their early works. However watching this really confirmed my thoughts on Wylers. William Wyler is a great director. next to John Ford he is the director with most Oscars won for best directing and his filmography includes multiple classics. That said, Wylers filmography doesn't feel like a whole. His position in film history as one of the greats, seem to mainly be due to his ability to consistently pump out a good movie. I'm not saying Wylers is a director without style, he's just a rather passive director and watching all of his movies doesn't really give me any deeper look into the man. This month has just showed that Wyler was an incredibly talented director who could make a wide variety of movies and always make them good filled with amazing performances.
..This movie was also pretty good.
Anyway that's it for Wylers month. Next up is December and like always I'll be doing my one Christmas movie a day thing for November. If anyone has any Christmas movie recommendations be sure to tell me as I need plenty to watch this coming month
