Puppylove feels disjointed but I can’t really hold that against the film as much, to be honest. Adolescence can feel like that, especially when gazed back upon on a specific subject. The film is coming-of-age but aspects of it feel like a small-scale horror as the free-spirited and sexually open Julia meets the sexually curious and comparatively withdrawn Diane. As Diane grapples with the weirdness of her new friend she opens herself up to more and more, putting herself into precarious situations with (usually) older men as she tries to figure out sexuality. Soléne Rigot does a great job of occupying the contradicting natures of being a teenager. Her performance really does stand out here
