the acting from the main character is, frankly, bad. there’s no subtlety, just a forced charm that never feels genuine. his accent is so over the top it borders on caricature, and instead of grounding the film, it pulls you out of it every time he opens his mouth. idek if he’s miscast, I just think he never once convinces you he’s a real person.
worse still, half of what he does doesn’t seem to have any real motivation. his fixation on William feels random like the script decided he’d care, and the actor just went along with it without knowing why. so I guess we kinda get a performance that's both loud and empty.
and sure, all of that could be forgiven if something else worked, if the writing were alive, if the story had urgency, if the dialogue carried even a trace of emotion. but NO. everything just drifts. the film aims for quiet profundity and ends up flatlining. IT SUCKS!
