Crying Freeman has to be one of the most 14-year-old boy animes I’ve ever seen. This would blow the minds of freshmen. Its level of sleaze moves past Ninja Scroll but it has zero finesse. I do like the change in art style. The line work and shadowing is a lot more bold and prominent. It doesn’t always look better, but it does always look “sharper.”
I can’t say I’ll probably ever revisit this series, but I can’t deny some iconic moments and imagery.
