I could not help but grin ear to ear while watching this. Monsieur Pointu may feel out of place initially to those watching this film as part of Animation Night in Canada vol 1 with its use of miming footage of the titular Monsieur Pointu. However, even so early on the film is using an incredibly niche stop-motion technique known as pixelization which allows for the human body itself to be used as a puppet to animation itself (and in my opinion, puppetry is simply another form of animation in that it is by definition bringing life to the inanimate). This technique sets up early on the frustration for Pointu - the comical nature by which the objects around him refuse to interact the way that they should. Simple visual setup that is exaggerated and exaggerated exponentially, growing more and more absurd. It’s such a perfect marriage of the actor and the animated
