#filmreview Mea Culpa (2014) is a gripping tense thriller about two friends who were together as partners on the police force. Simon, driving drunk, kills a family and is thrown off the force and in jail. Years after his release Simon's son witnesses a murder and is the targeted by the gang. His father teams back up with Franck to help track those responsible.
We are moments into the film when we introduced to the first in several jaw droppingly tense scenes, letting the viewer know what kind of ride you are in for. Gille Lellouche as Franck is, as always, great on screen but the real scene, and movie, stealer is Vincent Lindon as Simon. The pain and torture of his character is portrayed brilliantly, as is his rage at keeping harm come to his family.
Several nail biting, jaw tightening scenes and stunning locations add to the the films superb narrative. It keeps giving and giving. And though there are one or two cliched moments, these are easily dismissed in favour of its appeal.
Prepare to have your world rocked by the end however.
