It’s a pretty decent albeit generic teen sex comedy. The Groundhog Day plot device is fun, despite not being the most original thing in the world. You can see the conclusion of the plot from a mile away, but I found myself forgiving the film for it. This movie is wholly unoriginal, but it is a clever arrangement of unoriginal ideas. If the movie wasn’t funny, I’d be a lot less forgiving, but this film has surprisingly great writing. It’s a very tight script that checks all the boxes you need for a movie like this.
All the actors do a good enough job with the material they’re given, and Alan Tudyk completely steals the show, he is absolutely fucking hilarious in every scene he’s in.
However, there are multiple parts of this that feel like a movie that should have come out fifteen years before it did, and not in a good way. Like many other comedies in the genre, there are multiple moments that haven’t aged well despite the movie coming out in the early 2010’s.
I enjoyed the film, but I can’t justifiably give this any higher than a 5/10. Watch it if you’ve got nothing better to do.
