The film portrays the Swedish playwright, novelist, poet, essayist and painter August Strindberg's life 1849-1912. Through his extensive correspondence and literary production, from the supposed first work, the drama "The Free Thinker" (1869), to the posthumously published "The Occult Diary" (published 1977 ). But also his three wives, Siri von Essen, Frida Uhl and Harriet Bosse, and the children Karin, Greta and Hans are given space in the film. The unpublished first drama "The Free Thinker", depicts a young man forced to break with family and tradition to follow his conscience and ideals, becomes a prophecy about the author's own life.

"Don't try to describe your problems to your friends, for they will only talk about their own."
Oh god where do i even begin. Firstly, it took me forever to locate this film, resulting in me asking a random guy online to email me the files. Next, one of the avi files was corrupted, so i had to 'repair' it which took forever. Whilst transferring the avi files to mp4, it lost about 50% of its quality. And then, subtitles in the last hour of the film were completely wrong, which finally allowed me to find the entire film on youtube at much higher quality.
I wish i could've enjoyed this film more, but all of these technical difficulties hindered my enjoyment. And to be honest, I didn't fully understand this film, so hopefully i will rewatch it soon without the constant problems.
