Red Krokodil

Great atmosphere & cinematography, but I just couldn’t get into this movie. Some pretty good ideas but unfortunately it remains boring for a lot of the runtime, definitely one I need to revisit sober as tbh I am pretty drunk watching it and writing this lol. Still though, worth checking out as I can see some people really enjoying this film!

When there’s an art film, it’s either really good or just plain shit (looking at you Shape of Water) and this is one of the films that falls onto really good..


It’s deeply unsettling as you watch a man slowly die due to his drug addiction and the heart wrenching pain he faces just to get up in the morning - it all just really works well.

The film is nearly silent in terms of spoken language except for a few sentences yet the music that fills the rest of the film really helps emphasis the mans pain.

What I really liked was the small bit of information at the films beginning which helped educate the audience on what krokadil actually is (don’t search that and look at images, it’s very graphic) and how quickly is ravages a person (killing them within 3 years).

A particularly hear breaking scene is when our addict is looking in the mirror seeing what he previously was before the addiction took over and when he finally looks away the audience sees exactly what he has become….
