Old.. and he tries to make it feel older..
Gotta give Rohmer some respect, he really nails that Turn of the Century atmosphere. They feel like they’re much older then they are but still in a modern enough way for it’s time.. he really just read out Trotsky’s story and films scenes with an old 16mm camera.
Still found it very inoffensive and didn’t really do much for me. Jean-Luc Godard produced and acted in this one (Fun fact). It’s also 20 minutes longer than Berenice so I’ll give it that. The music is probably the thing that sticks out the most. The presentation is meh.. just a narrator over different frames really.. think I prefer Berenice tbh this kinda overstays it’s welcome and there’s some bad shots in this.
No real opinion on this one either, they’re on MUBI and I’m anxious they’re gonna be gone by 2022 so that’s why I’m watching them. I’m really into Éric Rohmer as a director, I wouldn’t recommend this if you wanna watch a good movie only if you’re really interested in Éric Rohmer tbh.
