Shot in 16mm, Berenice is Rohmer’s first finished film. The film is based on a story by Edgar Allen Poe about a man who becomes obsessed with his fiancé’s teeth. The film was shot at Andre Bazin’s house by Jacques Rivette. Rivette also edited the film.
Can’t really say it’s bad.. looks more like a movie from the 1910s than one from the 1950s.. also the music is very reminiscent of that era, so it’s probably intentional.. Edgar Allan Poe’s work is good and Rohmer portrays it.
This was made 70 years ago and it exists.. I don’t have any opinion about it really. Don’t really hold up.
