Huh? I am rather confused. I mean, I think I enjoyed it? But I have some major issues with some of the plot. Like what do you mean you randomly decided to leave your family after a night of smoking and playing Tetris, don't even bother lol. I understood 'detached from society' aspect but I just don't think it justifies leaving your family on such a short notice. This film would have been miles better if he only quit his job and left his girlfriend; not his wife and kids. I also felt like the pacing was very very poor, I found myself wondering what time it was and when the World Series would be on. (Im writing this as I watch by the way!) There was one moment where the acting was, not so great, but otherwise I thought it was solid.
Now to start with what I enjoyed. I enjoyed the cinematography a whole lot, the backdrop of Charles de Gaulle made an emphasis on the bland and 'detached' aspects of the film. It did a great job on making the movie even more depressing, but, it also added an even deeper layer of hope of new opportunities. An airport as the backdrop was a very clever choice, it can also be used for the metaphor of flight and also the normality of the characters lives. These characters, Gary and Audrey are disassociated from their daily lives, tired of the processes and routines they keep every day. All they do is look outside staring off into things of flight, whether that is a bird or a plane they dream of something more. Airplanes and birds can be that vessel to make you fly. The last 50 minutes were definitely the highlight of the film, without that it would be a lot worse.
