“im not gonna make you do anything you don’t wanna do.”but i am gonna show you my crazy bug lab and my gross arm covered in pus from my caterpillars that i let basically eat me so i can get high..and yes i am going to (allegedly) rape you while you’re numb from the caterpillar that i made bite you even though you did say you didn’t want to!!
upsetting over the fact that there’s a clear desperation and willingness to be pushed into dangerous and unsafe situations with people who plan one using you if there’s the off chance that you get some kind of affection throughout the process. we see that ben is reciprocative towards grants advances up until him realizing he has been bitten (and the fact that he is the one who insisted on pursuing grant despite warning from his friends and the palpable feeling that he is being used) and he even seems less frightened at the prospect of sex with him despite it being non consensual and in a position where he could not decline if he tried. grant seems to grapple with his own attraction and actions towards ben, and while his actions are nothing short of sinister his intention behind them seems to change and be more geared towards his own struggles with his sexuality, until he is interrupted by his friends and egged on the process of assaulting ben violently and making fun of him in the process.
clearly shows the fact that there are unfortunate lengths that he will go through to feel some kind of romantic reciprocation no matter how forced or manipulative from someone he likes, no matter how dangerous the situation or how unlikebale and disrespectful that person may me, as it is viewed as his only chance or opportunity to have this kind of connection despite how horrific it may end up being.
