I love movies about everyday people navigating everyday life, and this works so well. I came into this movie expecting it to be a Richard Dreyfuss movie, but no, not at all; this is Mercedes Ruehl's movie all the way. She gives an outstanding performance, and I now want to seek out more of her work. The writing from Neil Simon is fantastic, but then again, when is it not? This film has a lot of heart and emotion baked into it, and I think it's a shame it's not talked about more.
