Nothing remarkable but a decent short little old movie. Some of the characters (the police and reporters) may kind of annoy you with how dumb they are but things get wrapped up fairly quickly with its length. Peter Lorre is very cute in this and it’s great to see. The main couple is nothing special but serviceable, I liked seeing the leading lady’s circus outfits.
I will say this film is definitely a case of something that could have a deeper meaning to it but kind of fails at doing that. The tone is too light hearted for anything happening to be taken that serious.
I really did not like the scene with the animals (Imagine old circus animals lions, tigers, elephants) in the very small cages. Not to be too woke but just seeing how upset they were for the scene where the leading man sings to calm them down (we all know how horses were treated in Ben-Hur and many many westerns), I doubt those animals were treated well at all and I don’t want to know what was done to elicit their reactions.
Not entirely related to this specific film but watching films like this that haven’t been restored in HD or even released on any physical media (to my knowledge) makes you really appreciate the people who work to preserve and restore film. It also shows how important things like the internet archive are, I did watch this on YouTube but without those channels or the archive so many films like this would be lost.
