This film is shocking and succinct masterpiece, and honestly one of Miike’s better work. Per usual the piece is quite shocking and gruesome in some scenes, yet Miike leans heavily into this absurd comedy which gives this polarizing look at both gruesome murder and a hilarious protagonist. If one is looking for a pure shock piece, then one is better off watching Visitor Q or Audition. This piece is unique unto itself in Miike’s works and is more comparable to Ichi the Killer and the Happiness of the Katakuri’s in its truly animated charachters.
