I’d complain that it’s trying too hard to be tragic and tearjerky, but it’s a true story, and one that’s pretty hard to deny. It’s gorgeously shot and well-acted. It maintained suspense even though it ended up where we all knew it was going to. The prolonged shots of Marie struggling were heartbreaking and uncomfortable every time, but if I have one complaint it’s that I grew so frustrated with Marguerite for not just listening to everything Marie was trying to communicate with her body language. The struggle went on for so long when it didn’t seem like it had to... Definitely jerks the emotions, which at a certain point may have been to its ultimate detriment. Oh well, I have to write an essay about it now so I’ll stop thought dumping here.
