Director- Tsutsumi Yukihiko. This is the tenth work I have seen of his, and with this, I have finally finished this series. This has been one of the best series I have seen so far, but the ending was highly disappointing. From what I understand, Tsutsumi doesn't understand what the appeal of this series is and what the characters were. My mother and I started this because of its detective plot, coupled with hilarious gags. I also loved how the superpowers, SPECs, are shown to us with weaknesses, interestingly. This plot runs far away from those aspects and instead focuses on melodrama, using slow scenes whose only purpose is to elicit emotions, which they fail to do due to how much of a wrong turn this part is.The only good thing about this part is its excellent visuals, which will definitely be a treat to view on the big screen. The antagonist's SPEC is not explained well to us, unlike in every other part. This leaves a bad taste as it adds to its rushed feel. The part's runtime should have been increased by half an hour, if not more, to improve their pacing. The film also doesn't have her say her main dialogue, "The truth is mine", despite following the pre-ritual prerequisites, which was quite disappointing. The film has an interesting plot with the antagonist's helper getting humanised through living in a loving home, but it ends abruptly and doesn't conclude well. The final battle, due to a lack of battles, lacks impact and leaves the viewer with nothing served. It had a great opportunity of having a battle between two rival SPEC teams with Toma and the ones we saw, and the opponents having entirely new ones. This would have been the perfect ending. The film's way of dealing with Toma absorbing the spirits is done quite well, but the scenes of her dealing with it go on for too long. Sebumi getting beaten up without fighting adds senseless martyrdom that the film could have done without.Overall, this part has left me highly disappointed and saddened due to its quality. Thus, I believe that this part should be remade with a much more impactful finale and a better ending to save this excellent franchise from succumbing to mediocrity.
